The purpose of this course is to explore the complexities of the post-NAFTA, post-9/11 Mexican geopolitical environment, the power rivalries on its territory at multiple scales, the profound contradictions of a society in transition and the conflicts and stakeholders that shape the Mexican security environment  today.

While a certain historical perspective is always necessary, this class is about Mexico’s contemporary political environment and how that domestic environment impacts the geopolitics of the hemisphere.

 

We will explore Mexico's political system and governmental institutions by studying real cases.
